A downloadable game for Windows

Spreading the light is a 2D metroidvania platform puzzler about spreading light to restore a fractured world.

The player is dropped into a world with four zones, ~7 levels per zone, and multiple puzzles per level.  The player will have to solve mechanics-based puzzles to acquire new items through NPC’s and unlock the ability to solve more complex later puzzles.  As they interact with NPC’s, they unlock new dialogue and thematically spread light to make the world whole again.

really nice game, in the main hall i sure was able to cheese my way up though.
think i needed like 1 of each torch. once i got to the free area above, with some good jumps combined with switching between blue and white lantern, I was able to climb my way up without ever needing to all the complicated climbing you likely expect me to there.
basically anywhere where you have the white lantern on, are surrounded by white blocks and there is at least 1 block or more free space above you, you can time your time nicely, so you start jumping, switch to blue light, so you wont hit your head on the white ceiling, when reaching the height of your jump before falling down, switch to white again.
and you are stuck somewhere in the white block ceiling.

while in the first areas this was useful and just put you into a white wall in the main hub room, i cheesed my way up there in this way.
bit of thinking about how and where to go but surely made it up there.

will nonetheless try to do things the legit way and finish the game.

would have been nice if on the map it was obvious whih rooms were already fully explored aka all npcs talked to and all items gotten in a room.

but nonethelees nice game.

some puzzles are jsut too hard for my brain where I often wonder if I jsut lack some of the needed items.
or just dont understand how to solve it.

Haha, that's ok! i don't think any of our playtesters completed the main hall the intended way either.  Regarding the ability to jump though fields of white blocks, we tried to mitigate some of that but you found a new way.  well done!

giving more info about the number of npc's collected in different rooms is on our list of improvements, but we weren't able to accomplish it in the time constrains of the game jam.

Thanks for playing, providing feedback, and we really hope you enjoyed it!

and if you want a challenge, there are some other ways to shortcut your way to the end (though really, the main room spirit is more of a check point; we hope you enjoy the puzzling enough that the "end" is when you've had your fill of that)
